A new houseventure
We are in the final stages of closing on a home in Ruston! It’s been a process, much more negotiating and more difficult than my first housing adventure, 805 Seneca. However, the hard work and stress finally seems like it will pay off. Pending the FHA appraisal we are set to close June 25.
Currently we live about 15 minutes outside town in the village of Clay. We have really enjoyed our time in the country, especially Ross and the boys (grim, atlas, flip and blink). There’s been hog roasts, snake killins, homesteading, cookouts and more. But it’s time to make the big move into town. We’re looking forward to being more social with our friends, being able to invite them over and meet quickly.
It’s interesting the difference between a 15-minute drive in a city and in a town like Ruston. When I was living in KC and NY, being 15 minutes from downtown was a great and incredibly convienent location. In a town of about 25,000 a 15-minute drive takes forever and takes an incredibly planned effort. Sounds crazy, but it’s true.
For this house, I’ve had a lot of time to brainstorm the transformation. Also, I downloaded this app called House Design 3D and its just fueled the fire. I’ve turned into some kind of Property Bros/Joanna Gaines hybrid. I’m possibly turning in to a monster. For sure, Ross’ nightmare. No, really he’s been great. But I do think he stopped listening to my awesome ideas about a month ago and now just responds with a monotoned “yes dear” or “ Uh-huh. Yes we can do that.” Awww, he’s great.
We’re workshopping a name for this old girl. It might come after we move in and get a feel for her. I like The Grey Lady, but Ross isn’t on board...yet. Anyway, she’s got a layout problem that we will definitely have to address. On top of that, bathrooms and kitchen remodels plus cosmetic updates in every room. Fun job!
I love the high ceilings, which you can’t see well in the posting, but they are vaulted with the roof line. They give the rooms a lot of charm and character. There are built-ins and even a mini loft space in one of the bedrooms. I can’t wait to get started with the makeover. The outside is fenced so still plenty of space for the zoo. Another amazing plus—somehow there are way less bugs in town, and we are hopeful that we can actually start enjoying being outside instead of being blood donors for mosquitos.
