The 805: My First House
Well it's official! I'm the owner of this three bedroom and two bath 1966 mid century ranch house. It's been an exciting process and a little overwhelming at times especially at closing when I read my payments will end in 2044. Talking about signing your life away.
It was a custom build for the family before so the bones of this place are really strong. However, the inside is still stuck in the 60s. Paneling on the walls, linoleum flooring, 50-year-old carpet, green tile in the bathroom, and aluminum windows.
But the potential here is huge! Untouched like a white canvas. I can do anything. There is a fireplace, big window in the front room, great original wood cabinets in the kitchen, the robin egg blue laminate on the counter tops, and great vintage light fixtures.
My pinterest board has been overrun with this current remodeling obsession. I am going to try to do as much DIY as possible. I want to update, but also keep the feel of the period. First priority is the floors and painting. There's quite a job ahead ripping out the carpets and old flooring. The house is on a slab so I am going to refinish and polish the concrete. I'm still picking out wall colors, but I know I want the living and kitchen walls white. The floor guy is coming in a few days so demo begins tomorow...
