The 805: DIY Demo Day
Objective No. 1 today was kitchen demo. My brother Brett and my dad both came to help. Lindsay (Brett's GF) and my mom came to paint trim. Again the house put up a good fight. It is reluctant to change. The cabinets were nailed in with like 5 inch nails. At one point Brett was hanging his 6'4 body from his crowbar and the 2 x 4 was not budging. Admittedly I didn't watch too much of the DIY demo because I was taping for Mom and Lindsay. From what I could hear there was a lot of banging and frustration in the beginning.
But they prevailed. I think once they figured out what to pull and what to bang on it became easier. Brett did amazing. He even saved most of the ceiling. There are only a few easy patches to make. The transformation is incredible. So open. I think we will have to adjust from my original subway tile, open shelving vision for now. It was suggested to me to live with the open cabinets for a bit and see how I feel about them. The boys, I think, did not want to tackle another monster today.
I'm not sure if it will stay as is or if I will go ahead and do more, but for now it's simply great. Before, during and afters below....
And while they were doing the grunt work we painted.
